Lagos, Nigeria, 22 October 2023 - The Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation of Nigeria (ABBFN), in collaboration with the International Fitness & Bodybuilding Federation (IFBB), is proud to announce the winners of the inaugural Mr. Universe Nigeria Championship for Men and Women held on 21 October 2023 at the Muson Center, Lagos. The championship saw an impressive turnout of participants from various countries, showcasing their dedication, hard work, and passion for the sport. The event was a grand success, with athletes competing in various categories and displaying exceptional talent.

Results of the Mr. Universe Nigeria Championship:

○ Men's Classic Bodybuilding Open: Winner - Andre Eyo (Nigeria)

○ Men's Bodybuilding Open: Winner - Ikechukwu Chukwuebuka (Nigeria)

○ Women's Physique Open: Winner - Jocelyn Anjohou (Benin)

○ Women's Bikini Open: Winner - Sofiah Houndeve (Benin)

○ Men's Classic Physique Open: Winner - Mitonji Zannou (Nigeria)

○ Men's Physique Open: Winner - Abel Oyeneye (Nigeria)

○ Women's Wellness Open: Winner - Safoura Compaore (Burkina Faso)

In a historic moment for bodybuilding in Nigeria, each of the winners was awarded an IFBB Elite Pro Card, marking the first time such a prestigious professional title has been awarded in the country. The IFBB Elite Pro Card represents the pinnacle of professional bodybuilding, allowing athletes to compete at the highest levels internationally. It's a recognition of an athlete's dedication, skill, and excellence in the sport. Earning an Elite Pro Card opens doors to global competitions, and sponsorships, and is a testament to an athlete's elite status in the world of bodybuilding.

The ABBFN extends its heartfelt congratulations to all the winners and participants. The top three athletes in each category were awarded medals, the best six athletes from each category received a Certificate of Excellence, and the overall winners were honoured with a trophy. Furthermore, the top 6 athletes in each of the senior categories have earned points for the 2023 IFBB World Tour Ranking according to the Level 3 scale. Mr. Soye Elekima, President of ABBFN, & Mr. David Ekpe, National coach, expressed their gratitude to all the participants, sponsors, and attendees who contributed to the event's success. They reiterated the federation's commitment to promoting bodybuilding in Nigeria and providing platforms for athletes to showcase their talent on both national and international stages.
