It was action galore recently in the garrison town of Zuru in Kebbi State, North-West Nigeria, as a special 'Heavy weight lifting' competition was organized to mark the end of the 2023 Ramadan fast by the Zuru Emirate. The event was staged on 24 and 25 April at the Zuru Township stadium in the heart of the town and featured 8 contestants competing in 6 events, namely deadlifting, car pulling, barbell squatting, load racing, push ups as well as barbell bench pressing. The star of the show was Mr Yunusa 'Marley' Yage, a 24-year old bodybuilder residing in the Rikoto neighbourhood of the Emirate. Yage won in 4 of the 6 events staged, topping the charts in the bench press, deadlift, load racing and barbell squatting, finishing third place in the car pulling event, which was won by 25-year old engineer Uzairu Yusuf, while 30-year old student Yakubu Sani topped the push-up challenge with 95 non-stop reps.

The event proved very popular with residents of the town, who trooped out in full force to witness proceedings. Here are a couple of images from the event. Full video clips shall be published on our social media platforms in the future!
